Ventilation Assessment
LEV performance verification and general ventilation adequacy assessment
Overview
Ventilation assessment evaluates the design and performance of local exhaust ventilation (LEV) systems and general mechanical ventilation in workplaces. LEV is the primary engineering control for airborne contaminants — but only when properly designed, installed, maintained, and periodically tested.
The assessment includes face velocity measurements at hoods and enclosures, duct transport velocity verification, air change rate calculation, and capture efficiency testing using smoke tubes or tracer gases. Results are compared against ACGIH Industrial Ventilation Manual design criteria and HSE HSG258 guidelines.
A thorough ventilation assessment identifies deficiencies in hood design, duct layout, fan selection, and system balancing. The report provides prioritised recommendations for modifications, maintenance schedules, and ongoing performance monitoring requirements.
