Health Surveillance

Occupational health surveillance programme design and management

Overview

Health surveillance is the systematic, ongoing monitoring of workers' health to detect early signs of occupational disease caused by workplace exposures. Under WHS Regulations, PCBUs must provide health surveillance when workers are exposed to specific hazards — including lead, asbestos, silica, noise, isocyanates, and organophosphate pesticides.

Surveillance programmes include audiometric testing (hearing), spirometry (lung function), skin assessments (dermatitis, sensitisation), biological monitoring (blood/urine), and targeted clinical examinations based on exposure profile. An appointed medical practitioner (AMP) reviews results and provides fitness-for-work clearances.

OHConnect connects you with occupational physicians and registered nurses who can design, implement, and manage health surveillance programmes compliant with Safe Work Australia's Health Monitoring Guides and state-specific regulatory requirements.
