Ergonomic Assessment

Musculoskeletal risk assessment for manual tasks and workstation design

Overview

Ergonomic assessment evaluates musculoskeletal disorder (MSD) risk from manual tasks, workstation design, and repetitive movements. MSDs account for the largest proportion of workers' compensation claims in Australia, with manual handling injuries costing over $6 billion annually.

The assessment uses validated tools including RULA (Rapid Upper Limb Assessment), REBA (Rapid Entire Body Assessment), the Revised NIOSH Lifting Equation, and the Hazardous Manual Tasks Code of Practice risk factors — posture, force, repetition, duration, and vibration.

Deliverables include task-specific risk rankings, workstation modification recommendations, job redesign proposals, and manual handling training programme specifications. The assessment addresses both office-based (DSE) and industrial manual handling scenarios.
