Carbon Monoxide Monitoring

CO exposure assessment in enclosed workplaces, garages, and process areas

Current WES
30 ppm
New WEL (Dec 2026)
25 ppm-17%

What Is Carbon Monoxide Monitoring?

Carbon monoxide (CO) monitoring measures worker exposure to this odourless, colourless gas produced by incomplete combustion of fuels and organic materials. CO binds to haemoglobin with 200 times the affinity of oxygen, forming carboxyhaemoglobin and causing tissue hypoxia.

The current WES of 30 ppm TWA-8h will reduce to 25 ppm under the new WEL framework. CO exposure is common in enclosed vehicle workshops, loading docks, forklift operations, process heating, and areas near internal combustion engines.

How Is It Done?

Personal and area sampling via electrochemical direct-reading instruments. Diffusive badge samplers available for TWA assessment. Biological monitoring via breath CO or blood COHb.

When You Need This

  • +Enclosed vehicle workshops and parking structures
  • +Loading docks with diesel or LPG forklift operations
  • +Process heating, kilns, and furnace operations
  • +Gas appliance flue gas assessment
  • +Post-fire or combustion event indoor air assessment
